I am a first year student hailing from the upstate of South Carolina. As a first year, I have not yet declared a major, but I am passionate about a lot of different subjects, including theatre, writing, language, singing and the environment.
Since junior high school, I have been heavily involved in theatre, and I am continuing this involvement with Blackfriars here at Agnes Scott. I have thoughts of becoming a theatre teacher or director, so tutoring public speaking is an appropriate job for me! I would also enjoy working with international students and other language scholars. As I completed Spanish 202 in my first semester, I understand the challenge of learning a new language, and am always looking for opportunities to improve my Spanish conversation skills.
I see public speaking as an ideal means of sharing and discussing ideas, a process that is critical to fulfilling our duties as both liberal arts scholars and citizens of the world. For one semester of my junior year in high school, I had the incredible experience of working as a Page in the US House of Representatives, which inspired me to play a more active role in democracy. I hope that students coming into the Speaking Center will gain confidence in themselves and their ideas, so that they might speak with conviction and mobilize others to fulfill visions for the nation and the world.
